What are pregnancy vitamins?
Pregnancy vitamins are vitamins and minerals that are essential during pregnancy. Your body is working hard during pregnancy, so it demands a lot from the body, which means it uses more vitamins and minerals. Folic acid and vitamin D are the most commonly mentioned pregnancy vitamins, but did you know that your body also needs 20 to 40% extra magnesium for the growth of the baby?
It is always important to get the right nutrients, but even more so during this period. At Ovabalance we therefore recommend various pregnancy vitamins that support a vital pregnancy and the development of the baby.
What are the best vitamins during pregnancy?
During pregnancy, there is an increased need for vitamins and nutrients. The best pregnancy vitamins include vitamin D and folic acid, you need more of these vitamins when you are pregnant. Magnesium can also be a pleasant supplement. For example, magnesium is important for normal muscle function, for example for the muscles in your legs.
There are a number of pregnancy vitamins that you can use when you are pregnant. Below is an overview:
1. Ultimate MultiMama
First of all, Ultimate MultiMama is a multivitamin carefully composed for pregnant women. Multivitamin during pregnancy contains the most important nutrients in the right amounts. Exactly what you need. Among other things, it contains folic acid, in the best absorbable form: folate. Folate contributes to the formation of the placenta and the growth of the unborn child during pregnancy.
The Ultimate MultiMama also contains Vitamin B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, vitamin C and iron which can help with fatigue. Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, biotin, vitamin C, iron, iodine, copper and manganese also support your energy level. The supplement also contains a generous dose of iron. During pregnancy, women need more iron to support the production of cells and tissues.
2. Vitamin D3
When you are pregnant, your body needs more vitamin D for the growth of the baby. More vitamin D than is produced (especially in the Netherlands) under the influence of the sun. That is why a vitamin D3 pregnancy supplement is recommended for pregnant women.
Of course, the easily absorbable variant: vitamin D3. Ovabalance uses a plant-based variant of vitamin D3, making the supplements suitable for vegans as well.
3. Omega 3 in the form of algae oil
Algal oil omega 3 supports the brain development and the development of the eyes of your child. If the mother takes 200 mg fatty acid DHA on top of the recommended daily amount of 250 mg DHA/EPA, this contributes to the development of the brain and eyes of the unborn baby. Ovabalance Omega 3 is made from algae oil. It is therefore a vegan source of omega 3 fatty acids.
Please note: Pregnancy vitamins can be a good addition to your healthy diet. They are never a replacement.

Which vitamin should you not take when pregnant?
There are often warnings about the dangers of too much vitamin A during pregnancy. Vitamin A is said to contain substances that can be harmful to the unborn child. At Ovabalance we offer MultiMama, this supplement contains 3 milligrams of vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene. Beta-carotene still has to be converted into vitamin A in the body. The advantage of this is that your body will never convert too much beta-carotene. This means that there is no excessively high vitamin A level.
In addition, you should be careful with various herbal supplements. From our range, you cannot use Saw Palmetto, DIM and Six Sense during your pregnancy. Consult with your (orthomolecular) therapist/doctor before use. If you have any questions, please contact us.
