Advice for your menstruation and energy balance. Vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements that support your menstrual cycle.
As a woman, our body is never the same day. It constantly goes through a cycle under the influence of various hormones: the menstrual cycle. The hormones that maintain this cycle must remain in balance with each other and be present in certain proportions for it to function properly. This is not always the case. Perhaps menstrual supplements can be a good addition to your healthy lifestyle at this time.
Female hormones and menstruation
Menstruation is a bleeding of the uterine lining that occurs on average monthly. You get your period when there has been no implantation of a fertilized egg. With the blood loss, the built-up uterine lining is broken down again.

The menstrual cycle
Hormones play an important role in the menstrual cycle and are involved in every phase. The hormone estrogen is produced by the ovaries in the first half of the cycle. During ovulation, the mature egg is released into the fallopian tube.
The uterine lining is then suitable for the possible implantation of a fertilized egg by the hormone progesterone.
If the fetus remains unfertilized, it dies after about 24 hours. The built-up lining in the uterus is no longer needed and can be removed. Your body produces the substance prostaglandin that causes your uterus to contract to shed the uterine lining: you have your period.
Menstrual blood consists not only of blood but also of tissue fragments, which are particles of the shed mucous membrane layer and of discharge from the vagina and cervix.
The first menstruation
The average age at which most girls get their first period is between 11 and 16 years old. Half of girls have had their first period by the age of 13. Most girls therefore get their first period before the age of 16. Breasts often start to develop about 2.5 years before that.
What is a normal period?
A normal menstruation occurs approximately once a month. The cycle is the period from the first day of menstruation to the first day of the next menstruation, this is on average 28 days but can vary between 21 and 35 days. This depends on the duration of the maturation of the follicle, which can vary. The time from ovulation to menstruation is almost always 14 days.
The blood loss usually lasts a few days, but not shorter than 1 day and not longer than 7 days. You see that a normal menstruation can vary a lot and therefore there is no single definition of a normal menstrual cycle.
Irregular menstruation
The first few years after your first period, it can still be irregular. It often happens that a girl does not get her period every month at the beginning. When periods are regular from the beginning, they should also continue to come regularly.
If you have not had your period regularly 3 years after your first period or if your period only comes once every 3 months or less often, then these are reasons to visit your GP for a check-up. There can be various reasons for the absence of a period. Of course, it could be that you are pregnant. If a missed period is not caused by pregnancy, it could also be caused by a hormonal imbalance, weight problems (underweight or overweight), stress or you are approaching menopause.
The last menstruation
Menopause is the last menstruation. On average, this occurs when women are 51 years old. Before and after menopause, there is a period of several years in which hormones seek a new balance. This period is called the transition. Menopause can begin when you are between 40 and 60 years old. 1 in 100 women enter menopause early, before they are 40. You can find more about menopause and additional supplements here.
Premenstrual syndrome
In the third or fourth week of your menstrual cycle, you may experience physical and psychological symptoms. This is called PMS (premenstrual syndrome).
For example, women suffer from painful breasts before or during menstruation, bloating, mood swings, irritation or gloomy feelings. Many women sometimes suffer from menstrual cramps before or during the first days of their menstruation.
In balance throughout the month
To stay mentally and physically balanced during your monthly cycle, a balanced diet and lifestyle are important. Specific menstrual supplements can be a nice addition to a healthy lifestyle and the balance of your hormones.
