What is the combination of Vitamin D3 and K2?
Ovabalance Vitamin D3+K2 is a supplement in drop form with a handy pipette and contains two different vitamins.
Vitamin D3
Vitamin D3, 100% vegetable vitamin extracted from algae.
Vitamin K2 Vitamin K2
in the form of MK7 and has a high bioavailability. This form is extracted from Natto (fermented soybeans). The fermentation process removes soy from the product and is therefore soy-free.
Why use vitamin D?
Almost everyone needs extra vitamin D. Did you know that there is only enough sunlight for five months a year to produce sufficient vitamin D through our skin?
So it is quite a challenge to get enough vitamin D. On dark days in the fall, but also in the spring and summer, our body can produce too little. Especially now that we try to avoid direct sunlight and protect ourselves with sunscreen (which is very sensible for your skin, but does not benefit the production of vitamin D).
In the absence or avoidance of sunlight, a vitamin D supplement is essential.
Why take Vitamin D and K together?
Vitamin D3 and K2 is a more balanced combination. To function properly, vitamins and minerals need each other in our body. Vitamin D and K are each other's synergists, as they say, and reinforce each other in their effect.
Vitamin D and K support each other in the absorption of calcium into the bones.
It is well known that calcium is important to keep our bones strong, but fewer people know that vitamin D and K also play an important role in the composition of your bones.
Vitamin D helps maintain normal calcium levels in the blood, and vitamin K helps calcium get absorbed into the right places – the bones – rather than unwanted places like the kidneys or blood vessels.
Ovabalance Vegan Vitamin D3 K2 Drops
In many other vegan vitamin D supplements, vitamin D2 is the non-animal source of vitamin D. But because vitamin D3 has a stronger effect, the demand for a vegan variant of vitamin D3 is high. And that non-animal form of vitamin D3 exists.
Ovabalance Vegan Vitamin D3 uses a completely plant-based variant of vitamin D3. Namely Vitamin D3V. Vitamin D3V is produced from algae. It has been shown that D3V is chemically identical to vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) obtained from animal sources.
Vitamin K2, and then menaquinone-7, is considered the most efficient source of vitamin K. This form is produced by certain bacteria.
Vitamin D3 K2 from Ovabalance is 100% plant-based and therefore suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
When to use vitamin D & K supplement?
It is possible to get vitamin D & K through food, but you only get a very minimal amount through your food. Especially during the darker autumn and winter months, a vitamin D supplement can be a useful addition to a healthy diet. And for some groups of people, a vitamin D supplement is recommended all year round, for example for:
- Pregnant women;
- Women over 50 years of age;
- People with dark skin;
- People who do not get enough sun;
- Men over 70 years of age.
Especially if you eat vegetarian or vegan and don't get much sun, it can be useful to supplement your diet with a vitamin D3 & K2 supplement during the winter months.

What is vitamin D good for?
The health benefits of vitamin D are multifaceted. Vitamin D:
- Is good for the bones. Vitamin D increases the absorption of calcium in the bones and is therefore important for the composition of bones;
- Is good for the teeth. It helps to keep the teeth strong;
- Contributes to muscle function. It plays a role in maintaining supple and strong muscles;
- Contributes to the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from food and supports the normal use of these minerals by the body;
- It has a beneficial effect on the cell division process and vitamin D plays a role in the process of tissue growth and development;
- Has a positive effect on the immune system.
What is vitamin K good for?
Vitamin K has several functions in the body.
- Vitamin K supports blood clotting;
- helps with normal blood clotting;
-
is important for the composition of the bones;
- contributes to the maintenance of strong bones
The absorption of vitamin K in the body
Vitamin K is one of the few vitamins that is produced in your body. Part of what you need is produced daily by bacteria in your large intestine. The amount that you produce yourself is only small, which is why supplementation and supplements are often necessary.
Vitamin K belongs to the fat-soluble vitamins, together with vitamins D, A and E. Which means that it can only be absorbed properly when it is taken at the same time as fat. Because it needs fat to be absorbed from the intestines into the blood.
Vitamin K and blood clotting
Vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting. If you have a wound, blood clotting ensures that the wound stops bleeding.
People taking blood thinners or anticoagulants should be careful with vitamin K pills containing more than 100 micrograms of vitamin K. Ovabalance contains 45 micrograms of vitamin K per dose.
If you are taking blood thinners and suddenly take in more vitamin K, this can affect the functioning of the blood thinners. This is because vitamin K is involved in blood clotting.
Vitamin K and antibiotics
People who take antibiotics for a long time may also have an increased need for vitamin K.
The difference between Vitamin K1 and K2
Vitamin K comes in two forms: vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and vitamin K2 (menaquinone).
We mainly get vitamin K1 through food. Vitamin K is mainly found in green vegetables, but this form is poorly absorbed.
Vitamin K2 is absorbed much better by your body. Vitamin K2 is mainly found in animal, fermented products.
There are different forms of vitamin K2, from MK-4 to MK-14. MK stands for menaquinone which is the official name for vitamin K2.
The most natural form is MK-7; this form has a higher bioavailability than the other forms and is eliminated much more slowly from the blood.
Ovabalance Vitamin K contains vitamin K (the vegetable MK7) from natural natto extract.
The difference between vitamin D2 and D3
Vitamin D also comes in different forms. Vitamin D2 and D3 are useful for the human body. Vitamin D2 is also called vegetable vitamin D, because it is formed in fungi and mushrooms. Vitamin D3 is of animal origin. This is also the form that is produced in our own skin under the influence of sunlight. Vitamin D3 supplements have a stronger effect on the body than vitamin D2.
